Overview:
Avoid the most common government correspondence pitfalls. This course provides step-by-step instructions to effectively respond to a wide variety of correspondence. You receive tips and techniques for streamlining the drafting process. Participants also receive strategies for reviewing, proofreading and revising a draft for completeness, conciseness and readability. You receive recommended boilerplate responses for a large number of standard correspondence, as well as suggestions on how to respond to Congress and other significant audiences.
Who Should Attend?
Current federal employees in administrative positions who want to improve their correspondence-writing skills and build on a basic understanding of grammar, mechanics and usage.
Objectives:
  • Identify the characteristics of effective paper-based and e-mail correspondence in a government environment
  • Apply a systematic, flexible writing process to overcome writer's block, reduce stress and efficiently complete writing tasks
  • Analyze the intent, purpose and audience of correspondence tasks
  • Correct weaknesses and errors in government documents, including e-mail, using readability standards, model documents and templates
