Mission:
The mission of the Environmental Microbial Safety Laboratory is to identify, determine sources, assess environmental fate, and reduce transmission of pathogenic enteric microorganisms from contaminated food and water to humans. The research is designed to develop and test novel methods to identify and characterize pathogenic enteric microorganisms in livestock, potential wild animal vectors, as well as edible plants, milk, meat, soil and water impacted by agriculture; and to develop physical and chemical methods to reduce the numbers, transport and virulence of these microorganisms.
