Largest Settlement Under Environmental Protection Agency’s Audit Policy - Invista will pay a $1.7 million civil penalty and spend up to an estimated $500 million to correct self-reported environmental violations discovered at facilities in seven states. The settlement resolves violations disclosed under Invista’s corporate audit agreement with EPA. Invista conducted 45 audits at facilities located in Seaford, Del.; Athens, Calhoun, and Dalton, Ga.; Kinston, N.C.; Camden, S.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; LaPorte, Orange, and Victoria, Texas; and Martinsville and Waynesboro, Va.

BP Products, Texas City refinery, to pay penalty: BP Products North America Inc. has agreed to pay $785,662 to resolve Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) violations at its Texas City, Texas, refinery. The company will pay a $420,662 civil penalty and spend $365,000 on supplemental environmental projects in Texas City.

Aspen Power Ordered to Stop Construction: EPA directed Aspen Power, LLC, to cease construction of its proposed power generation unit located on Kurth Drive, Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas, until a valid permit has been issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. (more)

Office of the Associate Director - manages cross-cutting programs, such as strategic planning and analyses of regional enforcement and compliance activities, compliance assistance, pollution prevention, environmental assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act and more.

Air/Toxics Inspection & Coordination Branch - works with state, local and tribal governments, other federal agencies, businesses and community groups to implement and enforce the CAA regulations.

Hazardous Waste Enforcement Branch - provides guidance on all aspects of managing hazardous wastes and chemical substances; and offer compliance assistance to citizens, facilities, States, and Tribes.

Water Enforcement Branch - assures compliance and takes appropriate enforcement action against facilities for violations of the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water acts, including animal feed lots, stormwater. Additional water quality information in Region 6.
