United States, 1993-2001

Slide 21: Primary MDR TB in U.S.-born vs. Foreign-born
Persons, United States, 1993-2001. This graph highlights primary
MDR TB in U.S.-born versus foreign-born persons. Although the percentage
of MDR TB was more than 2% in each group in 1993, the percentage in the
U.S.-born continued to decrease to less than 1% (0.6% in 2001), whereas
the percentage in foreign-born persons has remained above 1%. As a result,
the proportion of primary MDR TB cases reported in foreign-born persons
increased from approximately 25% in 1993 to more than 70% in 2001. |
