Research Project: FIELD SCREENING AND GENETIC STUDIES OF POTATO GERMPLASM RESISTANT TO SOIL-BORNE PESTS AND PATHOGENS IN THE COLUMBIA BASIN

Location: Vegetable and Forage Crops Research Laboratory

Project Number: 5354-21220-010-02
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 27, 2004
End Date: Sep 14, 2009

Objective:
Identify potato germplasm resistant to soil-borne pests and pathogens and develop molecular markers to assist in breeding program.

Approach:
Germplasm will be screened in the greenhouse and field and assessed for resistance. Crosses will be made using resistant parents to develop mapping populations. Genetic marker analysis will be conducted to determine linkage. Sequencing of markers will allow development of rapid polymerase chain reaction tests to facilitate high through-put screening in lieu of field screening in future breeding cycles. Documents SCA with WSU Pullman. BSL-1; exp. 6/08. Formerly 5354-21220-002-14S (5/08).
