Cancer Prevention and Control Research NetworkThe mission of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) is to accelerate the adoption of evidence-based cancer prevention and control in communities. Using recommendations of the Guide to Community Preventive Services, researchers at the eight CPCRN network centers draw on established CDC Prevention Research Center guidelines and strong community ties to conduct community-based participatory cancer research. The members of the CPCRN are engaged in research and practice activities that span the translation continuum from discovery to the dissemination and adoption of effective interventions, going beyond advancing the science of cancer prevention and control to influence public health and primary care practice. The network is actively engaged in enhancing large-scale efforts to reach underserved populations and reduce their burden of cancer, as well as in reducing behavioral risk factors, increasing informed decision-making, and increasing cancer screening rates. Currently, the CPCRN is comprised of eight funded research institutions and one funded coordinating center:
Partnership ActivitiesThe CPCRN is funded by a 5-year cooperative agreement between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute. It is a subgroup of CDC's Prevention Research Centers (PRCs), the Agency's flagship program for preventing and controlling chronic diseases. Key partnerships for CPCRN allow a national reach in addition to a strong local presence. Each CPCRN member center partners locally with various cancer coalitions and organizations as well as nationally with partners that include state- and federally-funded programs, and nonprofit organizations focused on cancer. The CPCRN aims to understand, build, and sustain mutually beneficial academic/community partnerships at both the national and local levels.
