Research Project: GLOBAL GENE EXPRESSION IN SORGHUM BROWN MIDRIB

Location: Grain, Forage & Bioenergy Research

Project Number: 5440-21220-027-14
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2008
End Date: Sep 15, 2009

Objective:
Determine the genes that are differential expressed in brown midrib sorghum relative to non-brown midrib plants in order to identify potential mechanism involved in cell wall formation, lignification and bioenergy availability.

Approach:
The internodes of the sorghum lines (twelve) grown under greenhouse conditions will be harvested and total RNA will be extracted. Gene expression will be characterized through massively parallel sequencing (Solexa) from the reverse-transcribed RNA samples.
