Re: Announcement About the National Immigration Forum's Upcoming
Conference

----------------------------------------------------

Dear Forum Colleagues and Friends,

Due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the National Immigration
Forum has postponed its national conference scheduled for December 2001
in order to rework the agenda to reflect the changes and challenges
brought upon by the terrorist attacks. The National Immigration Forum,
with significant funding from the Freddie Mac Corporation, is pleased to
provide you with information about the postponed conference, "A Nation
of Immigrants in the 21st Century: Moving Forward in a Time of New
Challenges" to be held on January 31 and February 1, 2002 at the
Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC.

The conference will bring together hundreds of immigrant, refugee,
labor, business, ethnic, community and local government advocates to
develop plans and strategize for the future. We will hear from
high-ranking Administration officials and Members of Congress,
recognized legal and policy experts, business and labor leaders,
reporters and pollsters, and community leaders from both gateway cities
and new immigrant areas. Breakout sessions include:

. Feeling the Backlash: Racial Profiling, Hate Crimes, and Harassment in
the Aftermath of September 11
. Exploiting the Tragedy: The Anti-immigrant Movement's Opportunistic
Agenda
. From North Carolina to Nebraska: The Reaction in New Immigrant
Communities
. Climate Change: Immigration and the Mood in Congress
. Weathering the Storms: Building and Maintaining Broad Coalitions to
Support Immigrants and Refugees
. Learning from the Past: Previous Crises and Their Effect on Immigrants
and Immigration Policy
. Collateral Damage: Civil Liberties and Due Process Rights of
Non-citizens
. Welcoming New Americans: The Role of State and Local Governments
. Covering the Story: The Media's Perspective on the Immigration Debate
. Getting Back on Track: What's Happened to the Proactive Agenda?
. Immigrant Homeownership: Building the American Dream
. Labor and Community Organizing: Building an Immigrant Movement
. Refugees and Asylees: Building Support for the World's Most Vulnerable

In addition, the conference will offer additional events including:

 - An exclusive Strategic Communications Training sponsored by the Forum
held on Wednesday, January 30, 2002. Ask about this special training
today as space is limited!

- The world premiere of a new one-person play on immigrant life in
America by Sarah Jones, award winning poet and actor.

- A special breakfast with Washington Insiders

Complete information about the conference will be sent to you in the
near future. We hope you will register today!!
