Wildfire Evacuees Should Use Caution When Returning Home

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and state and local officials urge residents to take extra precautions when returning to homes or businesses after wildfire-caused evacuations.

"The danger is not over just because the wildfire is contained," said FEMA Acting Regional Director Dennis Hunsinger. "Fire damage can bring other hazards that might not always be obvious, such as gas leaks or weakened foundations.  Residents need to be very careful as they return to their homes."
