Analyst/Researcher Fellow Position

The National Center for Health Statistics is seeking a Master’s or Ph.D. level analyst/researcher fellow to work on the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS).  The position is in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Health Interview Statistics (DHIS) and is located in the Washington, DC metro area.  The NHIS is nationally representative survey of approximately 30,000 households that has been fielded annually since 1957.  The survey collects health and demographic data including health conditions, health behaviors, health care utilization, health insurance coverage, and socioeconomic topics.  http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhis.htm

This Associate Service Fellow position is for fifteen months with two option years.  The primary responsibility will be to assist DHIS staff in producing and analyzing the annual microdata.  This will involve data management, data editing, programming, data analysis, developing tables and graphics for data presentation, and writing reports.   The salary range is $58,206-$90,698, depending on training and experience, and the benefit package is equivalent to other Civil Service positions.  Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.  No moving expense reimbursement is offered.

Primary skills required for success in this position include education or experience in statistics, epidemiology or demography, and experience in editing and analyzing public health data.  A history of prior publications and familiarity with SAS, SUDAAN and complex survey data is a plus.

Postdoctoral Research Program
NCHS offer extraordinary opportunities for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program in specialized research in the areas of mathematical statistics, computer science, survey methodology, as well as health statistics, epidemiology, and the social and behavior sciences applicable to large scale sample surveys. Applicants must have held a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant field for less than 3 years or completed the Ph.D. before the commencement of work as a postdoctoral researcher. The duration of the fellowship is 2 years, but can be extended with special considerations.  For fullest consideration, applicants must submit for competitive review a five-page research proposal that includes a summary of research interest by February 28, 2007. However, applications will be accepted throughout the year until positions are filled. Applicants may be U.S. citizens as well as noncitizens.
