Snowmobiles at hatcheryThe Visitor Center

The Visitor Center at the Jordan River National Fish Hatchery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The interpretive displays provide an opportunity to gain insight into the mission of the hatchery as it relates to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's lake trout restoration efforts around the Great Lakes Basin.

The center has been an inviting stop in winter for snowmobile enthusiasts interested in a warm up and a glimpse into the operation of the hatchery. For the past three years the East Jordan Sno Mobilers Club and Glen's Market of Boyne City have donated supplies for the Visitor Center's hot beverage center. In 2004, these sponsors provided coffee, hot cocoa and apple cider for the snowmobilers and other visitors. Clean restrooms are also available.

Tour at JRNFHHatchery Tours

Tours of the hatchery facility are available when the staff is on duty, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.  To arrange for large group tours, please call 231-584-2461 or contact via e-mail.

Hiking Opportunities

The Jordan River National Fish Hatchery provides an excellent place to begin a hike in scenic Northern Michigan. Both the Jordan River Pathway and the North Country Trail follow the Jordan River as it meanders through the valley near the hatchery. Parking is available for those who wish to hike either of the trails or walk the Jordan River Road that borders the hatchery on the west side. Trail maps are available at the hatchery Visitor's Center or the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Service Center in Gaylord.
