Want To Be A Friend To The Hatchery?

We are currently looking for persons interested in joining our Hatchery Friends Group. The purpose of the Friends Group is to help the community develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of the hatchery and its mission in restoring lake trout to the Great Lakes. If you would like to be involved with our Friends Group, we'd like to hear from you!

We will be having meetings on the last Wednesday of each month (Board Meeting 6:00pm, General Membership Meeting 7:00pm). Hope to see you there!

Friends Groups are non-profit groups formed to provide support for projects and educational programs. They have been established at other U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hatcheries and refuges and have been very successful in raising public awareness, creating environmental learning opportunities and financially backing some programs and projects through fund-raising activities.

For example, at the Executive Committee Meeting on June 28, 2006, members dipped into their own pockets to come up with a $100.00 donation to The Friends of the Jordan River Watershed to support them in their efforts, along with area land conservancies, to raise funds for the purchase of the Gateway to the Jordan. The Gateway to the Jordan is a 40 acre parcel of land located near the mouth of the Jordan River which includes 3,500 feet of river frontage! By protecting this land and river frontage, we are ultimately protecting the habitat of fish and other aquatic wildlife. The opportunity to take part in this purchase fits nicely with our mission of conserving fishery resources.

Additional areas of involvement include assisting staff in biological projects and studies, funding and building projects which improve and expand facilities, offering tours to groups and the general public and sponsoring special events. See our photo gallery of activities.

If you are interested in becoming involved in our Friends Group, or for more information, please contact:
