NRC SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETING ON APRIL 2 IN ERWIN TO DISCUSS
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF URANIUM DISPOSAL PROGRAM
Printable Version

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a public meeting in Erwin, Tenn., on April 2 to discuss a 2007 report from the National Nuclear Security Administration on the environmental impact of the program at Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin to dispose of highly enriched uranium by converting the material to lower enrichment for use in commercial nuclear power plants.

The 2007 report was a supplement that updated an environmental impact statement issued by NNSA in 1996.

The meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. in the Erwin Town Hall, 211 North Main Avenue, and has been scheduled to address questions and concerns about the program raised during the NRC’s Feb. 28 Licensee Performance Review meeting held in Erwin.

Representatives from both the NRC and NNSA will participate, and members of the public are invited to provide comments and ask questions during the meeting.
