The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES), in cooperation with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), will jointly sponsor a course on fire probabilistic risk assessment (PRA). Since 2002, RES and EPRI, under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperative Nuclear Safety Research, have been developing state-of-the-art methods for conducting fire PRA. In September 2005, this work produced the state-of-the-art “EPRI/NRC-RES Fire PRA Methodology for Nuclear Power Facilities” (NUREG/CR‑6850/EPRI 1011989), which is the subject of this 2008 course.

In 2005 and 2006, RES and EPRI jointly conducted two general workshops on this methodology, which were attended by more than 200 industry and government representatives from the United States and other countries. Detailed fire PRA training was conducted in 2007. The training presented in the 2008 course will be very similar to the material presented in 2007, providing in-depth technical presentations and hands-on sample problem(s) intended for users of the EPRI/NRC-RES Fire PRA Methodology. Two identical sessions will be offered:

Session Begins Ends
I 8 a.m., Monday, September 29 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008
II 8 a.m., Monday, November 17 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2008

There will be no fee for this workshop. However, registration is required by August 15, 2008. (Participation may be limited if space availability is exceeded.) Complete our electronic registration form to register for this year’s course. When registering, please specify your preferred session(s) and module(s), as space may be limited. Requests for priority admission to a particular session/module will be accommodated to the extent possible.
