Research Project: WHEAT APPLIED GENOMICS

Location: Plant Science and Entomology Research

Project Number: 5430-21000-006-05
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Dec 01, 2005
End Date: Nov 30, 2008

Objective:
Using genomics tool to 1) screen agronomically important wheat traits in hard winter wheat from five breeding programs in southern Great Plains, 2) speed up process of incorporation of important genes into commercial wheat cultivars and shorten cultivar release time, and identify QTL for important wheat traits and associated markers for marker-assisted selection.

Approach:
Use of high throughput molecular marker technology to identify desirable genes from breeding materials, haplotype breeding parents and provide useful information to help breeders to make breeding plan, map QTL for agronomically important traits, and identify high-throughput markers for traits of breeders' interest and use them for marker-assisted selection.
