Research Project: A COORDINATED RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND EXTENSION PROJECT FOR THE APPLICATION OF GENOMIC DISCOVERIES TO IMPROVE RICE IN THE UNITED STATES

Location: Beaumont, Texas

Project Number: 6203-21220-001-12
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Sep 01, 2004
End Date: Aug 31, 2009

Objective:
Develop molecular markers associated with milling quality and resistance to sheath blight disease that can be used by breeders to develop improved rice varieties.

Approach:
Evaluate rice mapping populations for genetic markers and perform phenotypic characterizations to identify chromosomal regions associated with improved milling quality and resistance to sheath blight disease. Develop improved methods for phenotypic evaluation of sheath blight resistance.
