Daily Uniform Wear

Per CC26.3.2 the commencement of a new era in the history of the USPHS Commissioned Corps commences on 01 July 2008. The regulation states in part:

"While on official duty, all Corps officers shall wear the official Corps uniform of their temporary grade when assigned by an official personnel order for extended active duty, short tours of duty, or limited tours of duty. An officer who does not meet any of the exemptions and exceptions noted in Section 6-2, must wear the uniform on a daily basis while on official duty."

While they do exist, very few CDC/ATSDR officers will be effected by the exemptions and exceptions as noted above, with the exception of officers stationed overseas who continue to be prohibited from wearing the uniform unless specifically directed or authorized to wear the uniform by the Office of the Surgeon General (OSG).

It goes without saying that officers should wear the uniform with pride and distinction. Please rely on your fellow officers should you have questions regarding the proper wear of the uniform. If need be your respective Staff Specialist in the Commissioned Corps Personnel Office would be more than happy to provide an informal uniform inspection upon request or answer any questions you may have regarding what uniforms are authorized for wear and the proper wearing of those uniforms.
