Develop Asia-Pacific Infrastructure

Document Actions

The Strategic Industries Division's International Export Program (IEP) is a comprehensive undertaking to facilitate increased exports of sustainable infrastructure technologies and related services by Hawaii companies to Asia-Pacific markets. IEP specifically targets energy, environmental, and engineering-related technologies that the State already possesses significant expertise in order to build upon Hawaii's existing technology strengths.

The highest priority is on identifying niche markets for Hawaii firms, which supports the State’s technology-based economic development goals. Substantial effort is given to exporting clean energy and energy efficiency technologies to meet the growing demand for sustainable energy development in the Philippines, China, and other Asia-Pacific countries. For example, exports of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies from Hawaii to China are facilitated to take advantage of emerging project opportunities related to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Other activities in which IEP supports Hawaii’s energy, environmental, and engineering community include: assessing region-wide and by-country strategic infrastructure technology and service markets, identifying potential partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting export-ready businesses, and employing the State’s sister relations in the region to promote service export facilitation.
