Learn About Colorectal Cancer

My Risk

Most people who get colorectal cancer are over the age of 50. Other risk factors are:

  • Growths (called polyps) inside the colon
  • Family history of colorectal cancer
  • Smoking
  • Health conditions like Crohn’s disease

African Americans are more likely to die from colorectal cancer than any other group of Americans.

Here are some questions to ask your doctor about preventing colorectal cancer:

  • When do I need to be screened?
  • What is the screening test you recommend? Why?
  • What's involved in screening? How do I prepare?
  • What are other things I can do to reduce my risk of colorectal cancer?
