Welcome to the Corn and Soybean Research Unit Website Corn and Soybean Virus Team Our Mission is to develop the knowledge required to provide for the rapid identification, characterization and development of disease management strategies for emerging virus disease threats to corn and soybeans in the US and worldwide. §  To lead in research on the biology, etiology, genetics and molecular biology of corn viruses and virus resistance mechanisms in corn. §  To lead in identification of emerging soybean viruses and evaluation of soybeans for resistance to virus diseases.   Current objectives of Corn and Soybean Virus Team: ·         Identify and characterize emerging virus and insect-vectored diseases in corn and soybeans. ·         Develop corn and soybean virus disease control strategies. o   Characterize the nature of host resistance to virus disease. o   Identify, map, and clone virus-resistance genes.               o   Combine quantitative virus resistance with insect resistance in soybean. o   Characterize insect vector/virus relationships. ·         Develop virus-based gene expression and silencing vectors for corn.   Soybean Genetics and Breeding Team Our long-term goal is to improve soybean for pest resistance and seed quality traits Current objectives of Soybean Genetics and Breeding Team: Develop soybean germplasm with resistance to soybean aphid and map soybean aphid resistance genes Identify QTL for partial resistance of soybean to Bean pod mottle virus (BPMV) Develop soybean germplasm with high seed-protein content Identify novel quantitative trait loci (QTL) for soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance   Front: Kristen Willie, Rouf Mian, Chris Nacci, and Peg Redinbaugh Back: Angie Strock, Jane Todd, Tim Mendiola, Scott Beil, and Mark Jones     CSRU is housed on the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center of The Ohio State University in Wooster, OH.
