Friends of Chapman Field

The Friends of Chapman Field is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1994 to assist and support the research, education and public service activities of ARS scientists at this station which has been historically known as “Chapman Field”.

On January 23, 2005, Friends of Chapman Field met at the Subtropical Horticultural Research Station (SHRS) in Miami, FL. Robert Heath, SHRS Location Coordinator, introduced the organization’s president, Stephen Pearson, and commented on ongoing projects at the station. Mr. Pearson introduced the members present and elaborated on the ongoing projects within the organization and their efforts to assist the Station.

The meeting highlighted the need for adequate resources and grant increases on some of the Station’s projects. Finally, the meeting heard statements from the project leaders and the importance of the relationship with the organization.

The following personnel from SHRS attended the meeting: Robert Heath, Alan Meerow, Stewart Reed, Ray Schnell and Tomas Ayala-Silva.

Friends of Chapman Field present were: Stephen Pearson, John DeMott, Jack Fisher, David Lee, Waldy Klassen, Terence Walters, Larry Schockman, Robert J. Knight, Jr., Betty Moss, Bobbe Dooley, Ray McGuire and Chris Migliaccio.

 

 

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is one of the world's preeminent botanic gardens, with extensive collections of rare tropical plants including palms, cycads, flowering trees and vines. Established in 1938, the 83-acre garden is among the region's most popular visitor attractions and offers a variety of programs in environmental education, conservation and horticulture. An international leader in tropical plant research, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden plays an important part in preserving the biodiversity of the tropical environment. 

The
U.S. National Arboretum, the District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH), and the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) have signed an historic agreement that will lead to the design, construction, and maintenance of a pollution abatement system to be installed on the grounds of the Arboretum as part of a watershed-wide program to reduce pollution loading in Hickey Run and the Anacostia River.

Florida Dept. of Agriculture - The purpose of is to provide information to Florida agri-businesses, as well as to the consuming public.

University of Florida's
Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) develops knowledge in Agricultural Resources, Human Resources, Natural Resources, Life Sciences and makes that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.

The Univ. of
Florida’s Tropical Research and Education Center (IFAS-TREC) of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), University of Florida is located in Homestead, Florida about 30 miles south of Miami. The Center was established in 1929 by an act of the state legislature in what is now Miami-Dade County on land donated by the Krome family and Mr. Charles E. Schaff. 

Florida International University Miami's public research university - is one of America's most dynamic institutions of higher learning. Since opening in 1972, FIU has achieved many benchmarks of excellence that have taken other universities more than a century to reach.
