EDUCATION:
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
- Lake and resevoir management
- Toxicology and bioaccumulation
- Hydroacoustics
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Conducted limnological and hydroacoustic surveys on Twin Lakes, CO, to assess water qualtiy and fish populations.
- Performed a chemical and limnological assessment study on the Salton Sea, CA, and assisted with the preparation and presentation of results. Geochemical modeling (PHRQPITZ and PHREEQC) was used to determine potential chemical reactions effecting water quality variables.
- Performed a laboratory study on the bioaccumulation of trace metals in the aquatic bryophyte Hygrohypnum ochraceum. Performed literature review of related studies and developed study plan as well as management of budget. Subjected aquatic moss to trace metals (cadmium, selenium, zinc) using a static-renewal method, performed physiological stress-response measurements, and published results.
- Assisted with an in vivo study using common carp (Cyprinus carpio) to determine whether fish caged at various sites in Lake Mead, NV, exhibited evidence of reproductive system impacts, including those that may be caused by exposure to waterborne estrogenic xenobiotics. This involved the examination of fish for abnormalities in gross morphology, collecting and preparing fish tissues for histological analyses as well as microsomal enzyme activities, and collection and analyses of blood.
