Access Constraints: OSHA orginated databases have no access restrictions. Several licensed databases from commercial providers are licensed for OSHA internal use only.

Abstract: The OSHA Computerized Information System and Technical Links (OCIS) is the Agency's centralized repository for technical information on the identification and control of chemical, physical, ergonomic, and safety hazards in the workplace. OCIS contains more than thirty databases that are grouped into nine categories: MSDS databases;Chemical Sampling;Agency Documents;Standards Related;Safety and Health Hazards;OSHA Accredited Agencies and Laboratories;Historical Databases;OSHA Training Institute; and, Other Databases. The Technical Links component of OCIS provides a variety of advanced electronic tools to assist businesses to identify and to correct hazards. In addition, video and slide presentations are available. The OCIS databases are updated and reorganized frequently to reflect the many changes made both in system content and in use of the system. OCIS is accessible via online dialup to OSHA personnel, 18(b) State Plan programs, and to a number of Federal agencies. Additionally, most OCIS information, including Technical Links information, is accessible to the Public on CD-ROM and on OSHA's Internet World Wide Web (www) site.

Purpose: OCIS is designed to assist OSHA staff, 18(b) States, employers, and the Public in complying with the provisions of the OSH Act. The system is used for compliance purposes by USDOL-OSHA and by related State and Federal agencies.

Agency Program: OCIS supports delivery of OSHA's programs, services, and assistance.
