Abstract: The OSHA CD-ROM contains electronic copy of text of all OSHA regulations (standards), selected documents, and technical information from the OSHA Computerized Information System (OCIS). Specific files on the CD-ROM include: OSHA Act of 1970, with revisions; OSHA standards, OSHA regulations (preambles); OSHA Federal Register Index; Review Commission Decisions; Variances, OSHA SAVEs; Field Inspection Reference Manual; OSHA Technical Manual; chemical sampling information; approved blood lead labs; National Recognized Testing Labs; OSHA analytical methods; standards interpretation letters; speeches; fact sheets; and corporate-wide settlement agreements; and more. It also contains selected files and documents from other Department of Labor agencies, including the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), the Assistant Secretary for Policy, and the Labor Standards Administration. Regulations include all changes published in the Federal Register up to the quarterly cutoff date. The OSHA CD-ROM is updated and published quarterly through the Government Printing Office. Most of the information on the CD-ROM is available on OSHA's Internet World Wide Web (www) site at http://www.osha-slc.gov.

Purpose: The intent of the CD-ROM is to widely expand access to OSHA information. The CD-ROM is further intended to provide valuable OSHA information to the public at a reasonable cost.

Agency Program: The OSHA CD-ROM is used to assist OSHA staff, States, business, employers, and the public in complying with the provisions of the OSH Act. It is used for compliance purposes by USDOL-OSHA and related State Programs and Federal agencies.

Sources of Data: Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration Directorates and offices. Mine Safety and Health Administration.

Methodology: Custom C programs are used to process source files from selected OCIS online databases. These programs provide automatic tagging in markup code for the search and retrieval software used on the CD-ROM. Images for graphics are also added. A final premastered tape is provided to GPO for printing copies for quarterly distribution. Currently, over 11,000 copies are being produced quarterly by GPO.
