Abstract: The Investigative System contains information
on investigations of labor racketeering and organized crime’s involvement
in labor-related activities and information on Program Fraud investigations.
This system also contains information on individuals suspected of criminal
activities. This system produces statistical reports.
Purpose:
The Division of Labor Racketeering conducts investigations in three general
areas: employee plans, labor-management relations and internal union affairs.
The Division of Program Fraud conducts criminal, civil and administrative
investigations relating to alleged or suspected violations of Federal laws,
rules or regulations, concerning department of Labor programs, operations and
personnel. The office prepares investigative reports which may be used in the
process of indicting suspected violators of federal crimes.
Agency
Program: The OIG is an independent, objective entity in the Department of
Labor (DOL) charged with promoting program efficiency, and preventing fraud,
waste, and abuse in the Department's programs and operations. Under the IG Act,
the OIG has direct reporting responsibilities to both the Secretary and the
Congress.
