Abstract: The Part 50 Accident, Injury, and Employment System contains data relative to accidents and injuries reported under 30CFR Part 50. It also contains data relative to employment and coal production reported under 30CFR Part 50. Sources include Metal and Nonmetal and Coal reports.

Purpose: The data in the Part 50 Accident, Injury, and Employment System assists MSHA in determining accident and employment patterns in the mining industry. This provides support in decision making regarding the deployment of MSHA resources.

Agency Program: MSHA was charged with the responsibility of protecting the nation’s miners under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977, Public Law 91-173 as amended by Public Law 95-164.
