Oregon Caves National Monument
For Teachers

Our Mission

To provide students and teachers of all ages a curriculum-based educational opportunity that allows participants to develop intellectual and emotional connections with the natural and cultural resources here at Oregon Caves NM. By doing so, the hope is to instill an appreciation of our public lands and to promote life-long stewardship towards all global environments.

About Our Program

Oregon Caves National Monument’s Education Office is currently in a period of growth and transition. We are striving to reach out to educators to better serve them and their students alike through the continuing development of K-12 curricula and the constructing of other programs for learners of all ages. Suggestions and assistance to enhance this pursuit are always welcome.

Most of the curriculum-based programs offer opportunities for a Monument visit and when possible, a classroom visit. These programs are available free for verified school groups that are utilizing the Monument’s resources to extend their district or state curriculum, but not for recreation purposes.

Acid dew dissolves the cave wall to make small pock marks.

Did You Know?
Carbon dioxide mixes with water that condenses on the wall of the cave to create a very weak acid. Over long periods of time this "acid dew" eats away at the marble walls of Oregon Caves making the cave larger.
