Welcome to Dixie National Forest camping information!

The Dixie National Forest is located in southwest Utah, on high elevation plateaus and mountains between the Great Basin and the Colorado River. The Dixie offers with some of the most spectacular and diverse scenery in Utah. This diversity provides a wide variety of camping experiences. On the Dixie, the red rock country associated with nearby National Parks meets high alpine forests, providing a rich scenic experience.

There are 26 campgrounds and 5 picnic sites on the Forest. In addition, the Forest has several group camping and picnic areas that accommodate large groups. Most of the group areas are available by reservation only. Several campgrounds are located near lakes and reservoirs and have boating and fishing opportunities. Many recreation opportunities are available near campgrounds such as trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. There are also trails and primitive roads that are open to ATV and motorcycle riding. Many campgrounds are located on or near designated scenic byways and backways, and several are within short drives of Bryce Canyon National Park and Cedar Breaks National Monument.

When traveling to the Dixie, check your specific destination. The diverse geography and climate create a variety of conditions. Although you are traveling to the desert Southwest, mountainous areas can be cold and wet, even in July and August!

Elevations average between 5,700 feet and 11,000 feet. The Dixie National Forest is a place of extremes. The Pine Valley Ranger District ranges from a low elevation of 2,800 feet near St. George, Utah, to over 10,000 feet at the summit of the rugged Pine Valley Mountains.
