|
Fort to Sea Trail is Open!!
All trees have been cleared from the trail from Fort Clatsop Visitor Center to Sunset Beach.
Damage from the December 2 and 3, 2008 storm was extensive. The following occurred before the trail was open to the public:
- A micro-burst (two bands of wind coming together) flattened the forest from Fort Clatsop Road to the Overlook.
- Twenty-five logging truck loads of logs were taken from Fort Clatsop Road to Overlook section.
- Only the trail was cleared. Storm damage and downed trees by Fort Clatsop road will remained for the natural process.
- Highway 101 to Sunset Beach lost 193 trees to the storm.
- Due to fire hazards of dead Shore Pine and other safety issues, Oregon State Parks cleared the Sunset Beach section.
- For questions about the trail from highway 101 to Sunset Beach call Fort Stevens State Park.
- For questions about the Fort to Sea Trail from Fort Clatsop Road to Highway 101 call Lewis and Clark National Historical Park (503) 861-2471.
