Summer Experiences
Toward obtaining a hands-on experience in the types research done in the Plant Genetics Research Unit, summer jobs for high school (age 16 and older) and college undergraduates are frequently available. Eliot Herman and Edgar Cahoon, located at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, St. Louis, MO, each have a summer intern position. Several summer employees are needed in Columbia by the corn breeding (Larry Darrah), genetics (Mike McMullen), and entomology (Bruce Hibbard) projects to assist in field work (corn pollinations; data collection; insect infestations, collection, and damage evaluation). Part-time positions may be available in any of several laboratories to do routine work (wash glassware, mix solutions, prepare samples, grind tissue).
For summer jobs, contacts should be made in the early spring. To obtain further contact information, call or E-mail the Unit Secretary (573/882-4734, LewandowskiH@missouri.edu), or the individual scientist.
