Research Project: DETERMINATION OF BREAST AND COLON CANCER PREVENTIVE ACTIVITIES OF ANALOGUES OF PTEROSTILBENE

Location: Natural Products Utilization Research

Project Number: 6408-41000-006-04
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 19, 2006
End Date: Aug 31, 2009

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to determine the breast and colon cancer preventive activities of analogues of pterostilbene, as well as other analogues of resveratrol, in animal models of cancer and the mechanism(s) involved in any such activity.

Approach:
Analogues will be synthesized using standard chemical procedures, and cell assays will be conducted to test the activity to inhibit inflammatory genes associated with carcinogenesis, induction of programmed cell death, and activation of cell signaling pathways related to cancer development to determine the mechanism(s) underlying cancer prevention.
