Employment Opportunities:

A Message From Sheriff Timothy Howard

The Erie County Sheriff's Office was established in the year 1821 and I proudly serve as the 53rd Sheriff of Erie County. We have a rich history of service and traditions, including a former Sheriff, Grover Cleveland, who went to serve as Governor of New York and two terms as President of the United States.

We now have many more responsibilities than Sheriffs of the past. Our agency has six major divisions that include: Police Services, Jail Management, Civil, Court, Technology and Advancement, and Domestic Violence/Violence Prevention. We have a diverse workforce of over 1040 men and women.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office Mission Statement reads: "To provide quality public safety services to our community by promoting a safe environment through police and citizen interaction, with an emphasis on integrity, fairness, and professionalism."

We strive to achieve these goals and are committed to provide service based in the community policing philosophy. We endeavor to recruit and encourage the best-qualified candidates. Experience a challenging and rewarding career; join us at the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
