Research Project: MAPPING AND PYRAMIDING RESISTANCE GENES AND DEVELOPING HARD RED SPRING WHEATS RESISTANT TO FHB Project Number: 0500-00053-001-98
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 05, 2004
End Date: May 04, 2009

Objective:
Continue developing improved hard red spring wheat (HRSW) cultivars with resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) and shattering that are adapted to North Dakota production and have acceptable bread-making quality; identify and introgress FHB resistance from diverse germplasm sources into adapted germplasm base of the HRSW breeding program.

Approach:
Use improved parent genotypes to develop segregating populations for early generation selection and advancement lines that combine FHB and grain shattering resistance with desired agronomic and quality traits. Test advance and elite lines in multiple site field trials in North Dakota to identify FHB and grain shattering resistance with desired agronomic and quality traits. FY06 Projects: 1. Molecular Mapping and Pyramiding of New Scab Resistance Genes 2. Development of Hard Red Spring Wheat Cultivars Resistant to Scab
