Research Project: IDENTIFICATION AND QTL MAPPING OF FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT RESISTANCE IN WHEAT AND DURUM WHEAT Project Number: 0500-00053-002-75
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 01, 2008
End Date: Apr 30, 2009

Objective:
The overall goal is to identify QTLs for the FHB resistance and identify DNA markers associated with the QTLs in TA4152-60. Therefore, the specific objectives of this project are: (1) Obtain phenotype data of the DH population derived from TA4152-60/ ND 495. (2) Understand the inheritance and action mode of the FHB resistance in TA4152-60. (3) Identify QTLs for the FHB resistance based on the genetic map developed.

Approach:
Evaluate the mapping population in greenhouse and field trials for FHB incidence, FHB severity, and DON content. The phenotype data will be used to analyze the inheritance and action mode of the FGB resistance in TA-4152-60 and identify the genomic regions with QTL for FHB resistance using the genetic linkage map developed from the same population. The FHB resistance-associated DNA maarkers identified will facilitate the transfer of the resistance loci into spring wheat varieties. The proposed research addresses the following research priorities in the Action Plan: increase effiency of individual breeding programs to develop FHB resistant varieties, efficiently intogress effective resistance genes into breeding germplasm, and develop and map diagnostic markers for effective sources of FHB resistance.
