EXT. BROOKLYN STREET—AFTERNOON
Open high on a street scene from outside a brownstone apartment. Looking
through the kitchen window, we see a woman washing dishes, etc. We push past
her onto her young son, who watches her, unnoticed. By the look on his face,
we can see he is up to something.
INT. APRTMENT HALLWAY
From behind the young boy we see his mother washing dishes. He turns around
cautiously, looking over his shoulder, as we follow him down the hallway into
his MOTHER'S BEDROOM.
CUT TO:
INT. KITCHEN—MOMENTS LATER
As the young mother dries her hands, she looks around. Not finding it, she
leaves.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTHER'S BEDROOM
Young boy is looking around for something and spots his mother'S purse across the
room. He heads towards it.
CUT TO:
INT. HALLWAY
The young mother walks down the hallway towards us. She suddenly stops cold.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTHER'S BEDROOM
The young boy rifles through his mother'S purse.
CUT TO:
INT. HALLWAY
Through the bedroom mirror, the stunned mother watches as her son takes something
out of her purse. She recoils at the sight of her own son stealing from her. Her
face is filled with emotion.
CUT TO:
The young boy hurries out of the bedroom and runs into his mother who
stands there speechless.
She grabs him and pulls him towards her.
Over the young boy'S shoulder we see his mother reaching behind her son for what
he's taken. Her expression quickly changes when she realizes what he has actually
taken from her purse.
BOY
No quiero que te mueras, mama.
Close-up on the mother'S face. Almost teary-eyed as she reaches out and embraces
him. A crushed pack of cigarettes falls from her hand.
Close-up on cigarettes as they hit the floor. A man's shoe steps on the pack.
Camera booms up, revealing:
