Research Project: EFFECTS OF CONSERVATION PRACTICES ON SOIL AND WATER RESOURCES IN THE LEON RIVER WATERSHED (PHASE II)

Location: Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory, Temple, Texas

Project Number: 6206-13610-006-21
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 01, 2006
End Date: Aug 31, 2011

Objective:
Continue to collect field data on the effects of NRCS conservation practices in the Leon River watershed of central Texas. The practices studied will include crop production and animal waste management. The data will be used to develop and validate the SWAT model.

Approach:
Surface runoff will be sampled for soil loss, nutrients, and pathogens. Soils will be sampled to determine levels of phosphorus and other constituents. Data will be analyzed relative to conservation practices. The SWAT model will be modified to express the relationships determined from the field data.
