Research Project: QUANTIFYING ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS DERIVED FROM IMPLEMENTING RANGELAND AND PASTURE LAND CONSERVATION PRACTICES Project Number: 0202-11000-001-09
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 25, 2006
End Date: Sep 14, 2010

Objective:
The primary objective is to construct the scientific foundation for the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP) by documenting what is known and what is not known about the environmental effects of conservation practices on rangelands and pasture lands. The work will focus on the effects of conservation practices applied to rangelands and pasture lands on the following environmental outcomes: water availability, water quality, soil quality, and habitat.

Approach:
The Society for Range Management will recruit lead authors to synthesize the appropriate literature to document the effect of conservation practices on five basic resource concerns; (1) water availability, (2) water quality, (3) soil quality, (4) Net Primary Productivity, and (5) habitat/landscape fragmentation across 2 dominate land types; native rangelands and managed pastures. A 6th chapter will be developed to address landscape interactions over all resources.
