     COASTAL, HYDROLOGY AND HYDRAULICS SECTION

The Wilmington District has the responsibility for managing water resources in an area covering approximately 53,000 square miles, including six river basins and 1,500 miles of navigable waterways. Multi-purpose reservoir projects include W. Kerr Scott near North Wilkesboro, NC; Falls Lake near Raleigh, NC; and B. Everett Jordan near Moncure, NC. Multi-purpose projects with hydropower include Philpott near Martinsville, VA; and John H. Kerr near Clarksville, VA. Three Corps lock and dams are located on the Cape Fear River.

The Wilmington District Corps of Engineers maintains information on stream and lake levels from data collection platforms (DCP's); prepares daily reports of stream flows, lake elevations, and precipitation; and prepares monthly and annual summary reports of project operations.
