This site is specifically designed to search for Master Title Plats and Historical Index Sheets.  If you are looking for Cadastral Survey plats, Mineral Surveys or Field Notes you will not find them here, go to Cadastral Surveys or Field Note Search.  The plats you will find in this site are the same plats that are located in the Public Room of the Bureau of Land Management Utah State Office. These plats are scanned in a compressed G4-Tiff format and presented to you in an image viewer design to view tiff image over the web.  The Acordex Jave Image Viewer is explained further on the page. The Tiff image was selected by the National Archive as the most widely accepted and perferred image format for scanning and archiving.

The MTP's and HI's are stored by quadrant of the state NE, NW, SE, and SW, within the survey merdian where they are located.  The Salt Lake Meridan (SLM) and Uintah Special Merdian (USM) are separated so images with the same number i.e. T.1N., R.1E. will not be confused.  Selecting the correct meridian is critical to locating the right plat.  Within the two meridian folders, plats are filed in sub-folder in township and range.  There are 2664 townships in the SLM and 138 townships in the USM, so there are that many directories or folders for each meridian.

Once you have entered the Meridian, Township and Range, you will be presented a table displaying all the plats (i.e. MTPs,Supplementals, Oil & Gas, Coal, etc.) that have been scanned in your selected township and range.  There can be as many has  30 or 40 plats within these tables, to indentify the correct plat type you will need to recognize the plat type code to be able to select the correct plat to be displayed.  By clicking on the image name in the table the image will be displayed in the Acordex Java Image Viewer.

The Standard Image file name above, was developed by the BLM Scanning Specification Committee. The file name consists of 15 characters.  The first two characters "UT" are the two letter state abbreviation. i.e. UT = Utah.  The third and fourth characters "26" are the two digit Meridian Code. i.e. 26 = SLM and 30 = USM.  The fifth, sixth and seventh characters "009" are the three digit Township number,  with leading zeros for township of single digits.  The eighth character  "0" is for fractional townships, "0" is no fraction, 2 is for ½ townships.  The ninth character "N" is the township direction, N = North, and S =  South.  The tenth, eleventh and twelth characters "015" are the three digit Range number,  with leading zeros for ranges of single digits.  The thirteenth character "0" is for tractional ranges, "0" is no fraction, 2 is for ½ ranges.  The fourteenth character "E" is the range direction, E = East and W = West.  The fifteenth character "0" is duplicate townships, "0" is for no duplicate and "2" indicates the second of two duplicate township.  The four characters after the dash are the Plat Type Code and Plat Page Number. 

The Plat Type Code is the last 4 digits of the image name.  It can be identified easily because it is separate for the rest of the image name by a "-".   The 4 digit code is broken down into two part: the first two digits "10" are the plat type, the second 2 digits "01" are the Page Number for that plat type.  A Plat Type Code of 1001 is the first page of the MTP, and for MTPs that is the only page number available.  Historical Index sheets on the other hand may have numerous pages, some townships have as many as 30 HI pages.  The following is a table of all the Plat Type Codes used in Utah.
 

On the bottom of the SEARCH page there is a table organized by Quadrant, NE, NW, SE, and SW.  Under each of the quardants is a list of major plat types.  By selecting the quadrant and plat type you will be presented with a list of all townships and ranges where these plat types can be found.  Some of these lists will be rather lengthy and this is not the preferred method to locate a plat, but for some plat types this can be a useful tool.

This site utilizes the Acordex Java Image Viewer to view "tif" images of Master Title Plats, Cadastral Survey Plats, and Field Notes. This viewer is a JAVA script, for this script to function you must have JAVA enabled on your browser. To make sure you have JAVA Console installed on your browser click on SUN JAVA and download SUN JAVA console. Once you know the JAVA console is installed, close and re-open your browser to the BLM Land Records web site and the Acordex Java Image Viewer will function properly.

Upon selection of a particular image file it will open the tiff viewer in a new browser window automatically.  Within the viewer you can ZOOM, PAN, SAVE and PRINT copies of the plats for future use.

The above image shows an image of the Acordex Image Viewer Menu Bar.  A description of each Menu Bar button follows, starting at the left side of the Menu Bar.

DOCUMENT WINDOW The Menu Bar "Document Window" indicates the name of the image being viewed, and can be edited to load other images in the same directory.  You can load another image from the same directory by typing the image name into the "Document Window" and pressing the "Enter" key on your key board.  Images in this system are stored in Quadrant directories, so only image from the same quadrant can be loaded once you are in the Acordex Viewer.  To load another image from a different quadrant, return to the SEARCH page. IMAGE SCANNED DATE Below the "Document Window" is the date the image was scanned and placed active in the data base.

IMAGE PAGING Immediately to the right of the "Document Window" are the "Page Back" and "Page Forward" buttons.  Images with sequential numbers can be opened within the viewer by clicking the  "Page Back" and "Page Forward" buttons.  This is useful when viewing Historical Index Sheets, which are sequentially numbered, so they can be viewed by clicking on the  "Page Back" and "Page Forward" buttons.   Also sequentially numbered Supplemental Plats can be viewed in the same manner.

SEQUENTIAL ZOOM To enlarge the image 25% at a time, click on the "Sequential Zoom buttons, indicated with a "+" or a "-", which are located to the right of the "Image Paging" buttons.

ZOOM PERCENT WINDOW The window with "100%" in it is the "Zoom Percent Window".  You can click on the arrow in the window and other values will appear, which you can select or you can type a value into the window from your keyboard.  One thing to remember with the "Zoom" values, you can only use the "PAN" function on views that have been magnified less than 125%.

PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN This function will only be available on images that are bigger horizontally than the viewer window.  A horizontal scroll bar will be visible on the right side of the viewer window when this function is need.

PANNING The button with the hand on it is the "PAN" function button and can be used to move the image around within the viewer window.

ZOOM RECTANGLE This button when clicked will allow you to drag and drop a rectangle around a specific area to which you want to zoom.  This is particularly useful to select a portion of the image you are interested in and wish to view more closely. This will also select an area smaller than the whole image for printing.

MAGNIFYING GLASS This button will act as a magnifying glass as you move around on the image holding down the right mouse button.

IMAGE ROTATE The next three buttons rotate the image, right 90°, left 90° and 180°.

PRINT The printer button will allow you to print the images to any of your local printers.  (Because printing is a local function, a Security Alert will popup asking you to allow the viewer to access your printer).  There is no security issue here, only the fact that a web page should not be allowed to control anything on your local machine.  You must answer the "Alert" by selecting "yes" or printing will not work.  You should only have to do this once on each PC from which you access this page.  Once you do allow the viewer to print it will continue to do so until you clear the security certificates from your browser.  To print a selected portion of the whole image, use the Zoom Rectangle to select your area of interest. SAVE You can save a copy of the image to your local drive, but remember the only official copy is one that has been certified by the Public Room of the Bureau of Land Management.  Copies obtained from this web site can not be used for any offical or legal purpose.
