Research Project: IDENTIFICATION OF GENES THAT REGULATE SOYBEAN OIL CONTENT

Location: Plant Science Research

Project Number: 3640-21000-024-05
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 15, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2008

Objective:
The objective of the research is to identify the genes that regulate soybean seed oil content and aid in the discovery of novel gene sequences across the soybean genome by sequencing gene messages isolated from the developing seed of two soybean lines contrasting in seed oil content. The long-term goal is to facilitate incorporation of regulatory genes that will enhance seed oil content in elite commercial germplasm through genomic research.

Approach:
Sequence RNA from soybean lines and compare; annotate genes; identify candidate genes for protein and oil.
