Eric Carle
Renowned children's author and illustrator Eric Carle was born in Syracuse, New York and moved to Germany at the age of six. He returned to New York as a graphic designer for The New York Times, but his true career took off with the publication of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in 1969. Mr. Carle has written or illustrated more than 70 books, endearing himself to generations of children world-wide through his whimsical stories and signature collage illustrations. Acknowledged for his continued distinguished contribution to children's literature, Mr. Carle was awarded the 1999 Regina Medal. His most recent book is Slowly, Slowly, Slowly Said the Sloth (Penguin Putnam, 2002). Mr. Carle lives in western Massachusetts.
