Research Project: EVALUATION OF RECENT NORTH AMERICAN AND ASIAN FRAGARIA ACCESSIONS FOR COLD HARDINESS AND LEAF DISEASE RESISTANCE

Location: National Clonal Germplasm Repository (Corvallis, Oregon)

Project Number: 5358-21000-038-03
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 31, 2008
End Date: Mar 01, 2011

Objective:
1) Recent accessions from Japan and Russia will be evaluated for winter survivability under several mulch treatments. 2) Evaluate blooming date and frost damage in the field. 3) Evaluate the foliar disease resistance in summer.

Approach:
A total of 38 accessions will be analyzed in replicant studies with two treatments (straw mulch and no mulch). Treatments will be arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replicants. Winter damage will be determined for each accession. In May, bloom date and frost damage will be evaluated. From June through September leaf disease resistance will be evaluated.
