Utilities

Utilities are an important piece in the road map to water efficiency. You can implement water-efficiency strategies that incorporate water-saving technology along with innovative management practices to use less water while delivering an unchanged or improved level of service to consumers. By becoming water-efficient, you can not only reduce overhead costs, but also help consumers and businesses save money. You may be eligible to become a WaterSense partner if you are a utility that promotes water efficiency.

Follow these simple steps to become a leader in water efficiency:

  1. Join WaterSense.
  2. Develop a water conservation plan.
  3. Make system improvements to reduce water loss. For examples of how other utilities have implemented water-efficiency practices, please see Cases in Water Conservation: How Efficiency Programs Help Water Utilities Save Water and Avoid Costs (PDF) (54 pp, 555K, About PDF).
  4. Read the Using Water Efficiently: Ideas for Utilities fact sheet.
  5. Develop sustainable water infrastructure through enhancing utility management, saving water through efficiency measures, cooperative ventures via the watershed approach, and full-cost pricing.
