The Region Five Smokejumpers have been committed to "caring for the land and serving people" by protecting America's natural resources since 1957. This phrase expresses the mission of the U.S. Forest Service; the mission of the Region Five Smokejumpers is subordinate to and supportive of the greater mission of the Forest Service.
REGION FIVE SMOKEJUMPER MISSION:
We assist in the protection and management of national forests and grasslands by providing highly trained, fully equipped, and self-sufficient wildland firefighters. The Region Five Smokejumpers are recognized regionally and nationally as leaders in the implementation of the National Fire Plan.
