Research Project: THE EXCHANGE AND CONSERVATION OF GENETIC RESOURCES BETWEEN BRAZIL AND THE U.S. Project Number: 5402-21000-007-12
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Dec 01, 2007
End Date: Nov 30, 2012

Objective:
Recognizing the importance to humanity of protecting and preserving plant genetic resources for present and future generations, this Agreement will establish a framework for cooperation and coordination for the exchange and preservation of plant genetic resources, as well as the exchange and collaboration of research on aspects related to the preservation of plant genetic resources, as a part of ongoing programs in both Brazil and United States to preserve plant genetic resources to ensure food security and supply.

Approach:
This Agreement deals specifically with the exchange and preservation of plant genetic resources. With the understanding that food supply and security are of global interest, the exchange, use and secure preservation of plant genetic resources for current and future generations are activities of critical importance to both Brazil and the United States. Under this Agreement, both parties will identify plant genetic resources present in their respective countries which are of interest for exchange, preservation and research, and both parties will facilitate as possible these activities for the benefit of the mission and goals of both parties.
