Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Hormone replacement therapy is a medication containing one or more hormones, prescribed by a physician for women during and after menopause. This medication may be in the form of a pill, patch, or vaginal cream. The purpose of the therapy is to decrease the symptoms that may occur during menopause and to help protect against other diseases. In some National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) reports, HRT drugs use national drug classification (NDC) therapeutic code 1034 (estrogens/progestins).
