The Sixteenth Annual "Haunting in the Hills" Storytelling Festival will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008, in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The event will include in school presentations, storytelling and craft workshops, afternoon storytelling presentations and music. The day's events will conclude with the telling of ghost stories in an area adjacent to the Bandy Creek Visitor Center. The event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine.
The festival actually begins on Wednesday and for the remainder of the week professional storytellers will be visiting elementary, middle and high schools in the five counties which adjoin the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. All together over 10,000 students will have the opportunity to see performances by these nationally recognized tellers. To further enhance the learning opportunities of the school visit the festival also makes a Classroom Activities Booklet available to all teachers for use after the presentation.
Saturday’s events will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in the fields and areas adjacent to the Bandy Creek Visitor Center. Craft demonstrations, craft workshops, storytelling workshops and beginner level dulcimer workshops will be available.
