Research Project: COOPERATOR'S PROPOSAL FOR LSUROP SUMMER FUNDING

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 3622-21000-027-01
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 01, 2006
End Date: Apr 30, 2008

Objective:
Provide a faculty-mentored research experience for undergraduates on a research-intensive public university campus. Expose students to a wide variety of scientific research fields, with an emphasis on life science related research. Encourage students to pursue Ph.D. degrees and expose students to research career options. Increase the number of students from diverse backgrounds (underrepresented minority, first-generation college students, women, students attending non-research rich colleges) engaging in scientific research and preparing for doctorate degrees and research careers.

Approach:
Work in cooperation with the University of Missouri Office of Undergraduate Research. Allow student Elisha Odoom from Lincoln University to work full-time as a summer intern on a faculty-mentored research project for eight weeks, participate in independent research projects, as well as educational and community-building activities. Dr. Thomas Coudron from 3622-10, will be the investigator on this project.
