BEST told me I might be eligible for benefits. What should I do next?
  Question
The Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) told me I might be eligible for benefits. What should I do next?
  Answer

If BEST told you that you may be eligible for retirement, spouse's, divorced spouse's, or independently entitled divorced spouse's benefits or social security disability benefits, you may apply online.

If you do not wish to apply online or if you want to apply for any other type of benefit (e.g., Supplemental Security Income), you should call SSA at 1-800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call our “TTY” number, 1-800-325-0778, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on business days. Tell the representative that you want to file for benefits.

You can help us serve you better by having your Social Security number handy when you call. Whichever method of applying you choose, you should contact us immediately to avoid any possible loss of benefits.
