Research Project: TRANSCRIPTOME ANALYSES IN SALMONIDS

Location: Leetown, West Virginia

Project Number: 1930-31000-008-06
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 01, 2006
End Date: Jan 31, 2009

Objective:
The amount of expressed sequence tag data for salmonids in public databases continues to increase. Our objectives are to nearly double the number of expressed sequence tags from the July 2004 levels for Atlantic salmon (130919) and rainbow trout (127618) and to conduct a set of analyses to extract as much information as possible from these datasets with respect to functional annotation, genome duplication, and allelic variation.

Approach:
cDNA libraries will be constructed and sequenced which target tissues and developmental stages of Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout which have not been previously characterized. Dr. Rexroad and Dr. Koop will analyze data sets by species and as a whole to assign functional annotation, identify single nucleotide polymorphisms, and distinguish between closely related members of gene families.
